Mitch McConnell says government officials
aren't smart enough to handle the cyberattacks

During an appearance on Fox News’ “Fox News Sunday,” Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) told host Brett Bair that federal officials aren’t smart enough to figure out how to stop potential hacks into the government’s sites.

McConnel said, “I mean total incompetence. Complete and total incompetence.”  McConnell’s statement was a response to Bair’s question concerning the Office of Personnel Management report showing that the cyberattacks on the agency’s systems were wider than originally believed.

OPM’s reported last week revealed that hackers stole over 25 million people information. The revelation resulted in the resignation of OPM’s director, Katherine Archulete.

McConnell told Bair that the situation doesn’t look good and it explains why the Obama Administration had trouble with the Obamacare website.

McConnell told Bair, “This is a total mess. It’s no wonder they had a hard time with the websites when they launched Obamacare.”

McConnell went on to say that this month Congress will be introducing an information sharing bill that will enable the government to better to deal with the issue of cybersecurity.
